The Vice Chairman of Local Organizing Committee LOC of Abia Soccer Festival known as ABIA SOCCER FEST Captain Eric Iheanacho Asumugha say the Abia Soccer Festival that will happen in Abia state starting from the 23rd of August 2025 is purely for talent hunt in football playing .

Speaking to the press at the end of the 3rd and final zonal draws of the on coming soccer tournament in the state , Captain Asumugha said the state desire to discover young talents hence the tournament . Abia would be witnessing a Soccer tournament in the state that would kick off on the 23rd of August 2025 . The tournament he said would start at ward level of the 17 local government areas of the state and all the 184 wards would participate in the tournament and the over all winners at the the LGA level would be qualified to participate at the state level .

He disclosed that the tournament is first of it’s kind in the state and Nigeria noting that those at the grassroot are particularly happy with the state governor Dr Alex Otti for organizing the sports festival that includes those at the grass which have never happened before in the state. He hinted that two ministries are handling the tournament , ministries of Sports and Youths Development and that of Local Government’ and Chieftaincy Affairs while a business mogul in Aba Chief Ude John Udeagbala serves as Chairman of the event .

Captain Asumugha speaking on the rules of game said seminars have been held to educate the Players on the rules of the game and two Experts in sporting rules are on hand to adjudicate on the officiating of the tournament while winners would go home with various prizes . He reiterated that the essence of the tournament that would last 6 to 7 months is not for winners or prizes but to discover young talents in football noting that every body is a winner in the tournament .
