Okorie Lewechi Family Announces Passing of Respected Uzuakoli Matriarch
The Okorie Lewechi family of Akaekwo Amamba Uzuakoli has announced the passing of their mother, Ezinne Ahuruchi Okorie, at the age of ninety one. The family said friends, associates and well wishers are invited to join them in celebrating her life of faith, community service and steadfast Christian devotion.
Ezinne Okorie, mother of Hon Lady Blessing Uwaoma Nwokonneya, was widely regarded as one of Uzuakoli’s respected matriarchs. She was known for her active role in church activities and her contribution to community development. Her efforts in mobilising women and supporting grassroots initiatives earned her the Ezinne title along with several honours from religious and social groups.
She was also the mother of Uzuakoli’s first air pilot, Captain Onyebuchi Okorie, who served with Aero Contractors Ltd for more than thirty two years, a milestone that earned her the affectionate name Nne Captain among residents.
According to the funeral committee, the Service of Songs will be held on Tuesday, 30 December 2025 at 5 p.m. at her residence in Ndi Ojimmadu, Akaekwo Autonomous Community, Amamba Uzuakoli, Bende Local Government Area. The Funeral Service will follow on Wednesday, 31 December 2025 at Methodist College Uzuakoli by 10 a.m., under the auspices of Methodist Church Nigeria, Dodds Cathedral Circuit.
Family representatives, including HRH Eze Uchendu Okorie and Dr Obioha Okorie, confirmed that preparations are underway to ensure that her final rites reflect dignity and honour for her contributions to the church, community and family.
