ABIA STATE CIVIL SERVICE IS MERIT BASED DEVOID OF QUOTA SYSTEM

Governor Alex Otti of Abia State say his government’ is building a Civil Service that is entirely devoid of quota system but based on merit .


Governor Alex Otti made this remark when The National Council of Civil Service Commission visited his office to intimate him of their arrival in the state to hold their 44th Annual National Council Meeting.

The Governor stated that merit and hard work are the bases of employment and promotion , in the state ,not where you come from or who you know .

“We just hired 5,394 teachers. We didn’t care where they came from. In fact, from an analysis that was done by my people, a lot of them came from Cross River and Akwa Ibom States. This he said is to make Abia state Civil Service competence driven .

He promised that Abia state government would be the first to respond to their proposed Strategic plan for Civil Service .
Noting that his administration have continued to reform civil service in the state , even as government’ have concluded plans to pay Retirees a 20 year back log of 60.1 billion Naira gratuity arrears owe pensioners in the state . He wished them a fruitful deliberations in their meeting.

Prof. Tunji Olaopa National Chairman Civil Service Commission of Nigeria

Speaking earlier, the Chairman, Federal Civil Service Commission, Prof. Tunji Olaopa, said that they are in the State for the 44th national conference of the Civil Service Commission and announced that Abia has been selected as the first pilot partner in the National Strategic Plan aimed at revolutionising career management, redesign and modernize public service processes in Nigeria.

Prof. Olaopa commended Governor Otti for his results-driven leadership that speaks for itself, saying that Governor Otti is a performing governor.

The National Council Meeting, lasted for about 5 days at the international Conference centre Ogurube Layout Umuahia . In their communique the council took some far reaching decisions for effective performance. One of such decision states that Merit shall be the bases for recruitment and promotion . While age and documents falsification by any worker , shall attract stiff penalties . There shall be a clearly and authentic formular to accommodate the requirement for recruitment and diversity management . Among several other decisions .

In her vote of thanks , the Chairman Abia state Civil Service Commission Dr.Eno Jerry Eze , thanked the Council for coming to Abía State she again thanked the governor Dr. Alex Otti for sponsoring the meeting. She said Abia civil service commission is solidly behind the administration of the National Chairman of the Council Prof. Tunji Olaopa . She commended the Council for choosing Abia state as the pilot state for the National Strategic Plan .

The Council agreed that their next meeting shall be be in Asaba , Delta State in 2026 .
