Hon. Erondu Breaks Empowerment Record

The member representing Obingwa West State Constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly, Hon. Erondu Uchenna Erondu, has carried out a large-scale empowerment programme for his constituents, described as the most extensive ever recorded in the constituency.

The empowerment event took place at the Umuaro Civic Centre, Umuaro Community, Mgboko Umuanunu Ancient Kingdom, and was attended by political leaders from different parties, traditional rulers, community leaders, and a large number of constituents.

Items distributed during the programme cut across education, healthcare, transportation, and small-scale businesses. They included motorcycles, cars, buses, minibuses, trucks, tippers, desktop computers, laptops, generators, car wash machines, spraying and vulcanizing machines, as well as over 20,000 medical items, five dialysis machines, incubators, hospital beds and mattresses.

Others were university scholarships, free JAMB and WAEC registrations, houses, female goats for widows, and other support materials.

Speaking at the event, the Chairman of the occasion, Chief Raymond Aliga, said the empowerment transcended party politics and described Hon. Erondu as an inclusive and effective representative.

He passed a vote of confidence on the lawmaker and called for his re-election.

The Abia South Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Hon. Enyinnaya Apollos, said the programme was the first phase of a broader empowerment plan, attributing the lawmaker’s political growth to the mentorship of former Governor Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu and former Deputy Governor Chief Chris Akomas.

Also speaking, the Abia State PDP Chairman, Elder Abraham Amah, described Hon. Erondu as a key pillar of the party and commended the scale of the empowerment, noting the presence of leaders from other political parties.

Former Imo State governorship candidate, Hon. Uche Nwosu, who attended the event from Abuja, praised the lawmaker for the initiative and announced a donation of ₦2 million to support logistics for beneficiaries.

The Mayor of Obingwa Local Government Area, Hon. Maxwell Nwadike, described the empowerment as unprecedented in the area and urged beneficiaries to use the items judiciously.

The Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Emmanuel Emeruwa, also commended the lawmaker and encouraged beneficiaries to put the items to productive use.

Former Deputy Governor of Abia State, Chief Chris Akomas, announced additional financial support of ₦50,000 for each motorcycle beneficiary, ₦100,000 for car beneficiaries, and ₦1.4 million for the 14 wards of Obingwa Local Government Area.

Former Abia State Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, described the empowerment as impactful and urged Hon. Erondu to sustain the initiative.

In his remarks, Hon. Erondu said the programme was designed to improve education, healthcare, and economic opportunities in Obingwa West, adding that it was part of a long-term development plan.

He urged beneficiaries to make effective use of the items distributed.

One of the beneficiaries, Mr. Ndubuisi Nwankwo, who received a coaster bus, expressed appreciation to the lawmaker for the support.

The event concluded with the distribution of the empowerment materials, as Hon. Erondu reaffirmed his commitment to continued service and development of Obingwa West State Constituency.
