ABIA POLICE COMMAND RESCUES 18 CHILDREN, ARRESTS 10 SUSPECTS IN CHILD-STEALING SYNDICATE

The Abia State Police Command has successfully rescued eight infants and ten children from a suspected child-stealing and trafficking syndicate operating within the state. In a coordinated series of operations, ten suspects were apprehended across various locations in Aba and its environs.

The breakthrough followed a complaint lodged on September 27, 2025, at the Ohuru Isimiri Divisional Police Headquarters. A young woman from Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, reported that she was lured to Aba under the pretext of marriage. Upon her arrival, the man accompanying her deceived her into leaving her two children in his care while she went to buy food. She returned to find both the man and her children missing. All efforts to contact him failed.

Following credible intelligence, officers of the Command, on October 8, 2025, raided a residence suspected to be a hideout for trafficked children. Five suspects were arrested during the operation:

They are Mrs. Best Ndubusi (41), Charles Enyinnaya (25), Eunice Ezekiel (35), Gideon Esther (25), and Nnena Kalu (60) while One infant and seven children were rescued from the scene.

The operation continued on October 9, 2025, as police stormed another location along Aba/Owerri Road. Four additional suspects were arrested: Obiegbunam Von (65), Ezeoma Rejoice (21), Ngozi Owoh (20), and Favour Ernest (22).

This raid led to the rescue of seven infants and three children.On October 10, 2025, a further breakthrough led to the arrest of another suspect: Brittney Oyemuwa Zion (22), from whom one child was rescued.

All suspects are currently in custody while investigations continue at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID).

The Commissioner of Police, Abia State Command, CP Danladi Isa, reaffirmed the Command’s unyielding resolve to dismantle criminal networks and safeguard the lives of all residents.

He urged members of the public whose children are missing or suspected to have been stolen to visit the Gender Section of the SCID or contact the Officer in Charge (OC Gender) via 08033173846.

The CP also called on parents and guardians to ensure the proper supervision of children and to promptly report suspicious activities. The public is further encouraged to make use of the following emergency contact lines:
