ABIA STATE GOVT TO PRODUCE A 25 YEAR DEVELOPMENT GROWTH PLAN FOR THE STATE

ABIA State government’ say all is now set for the introduction of a 25 year development growth plan for the state.
The Abia state Commissioner for information Prince Okey Kanu hinted this at the week’s Executive Council meeting briefing of the press which took place at the government house Umuahia .
According to him , the Development plan will specify the direction of development growth plan of the state for the next 25 years ,the funding pathways and shall have a legal backing that will enable it be binding on successive governments .
The plan he said will outline the short-, medium-, and long-term aggregate growth in a sequential progression with the ultimate goal of developing the State in a structured manner.
Prince Kanu announced that the state’s Materials Testing Laboratory has been fully installed and will soon be commissioned. The facility, he said, will play a vital role in preventing building collapses across Abia state.
The Information Commissioner revealed that the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education has successfully conducted the first statewide annual school census, disclosing that, a total of 4,150 schools, 1,687,326 learners, and 45,151 staff participated in the exercise.
He noted that the census yielded achievements which including the distribution of 1,221 Android tablets to school heads and data officers.
He added that the state’s adult and non-formal education programme is now fully operational, giving citizens a second chance in education .
On infrastructure, Prince Kanu disclosed that the Ministry of Works is executing direct-labour projects in 50 locations, five of which are completed, with seven new ones recently added .
He listed the completed projects to include: Repairs on Federal Medical Centre internal roads (2.1km), construction of Road 11 in the low-cost housing estate, maintenance of Bende–Itumbuzo Road Phase 1, Repairs on Enugu-Ugwu Road and World Bank Housing Estate roads, repairs in Health Centre Road, World Bank Housing Estate, Umuahia.
He informed that, the newly added direct-labour works include upgrades on Ikonne Street in Aba, Nzeadibe Street in Umuahia, a road at Mater Dei Catholic Cathedral , Umuahia among others and said that contractors have been directed to accelerate work and make maximum use of the dry season to complete most projects before the next rainy season .
