Emetu Inspects Remodeled Ogbo Primary School, Advances Abia Smart School Initiative

The Deputy Governor of Abia State, Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu, has conducted an inspection of the newly remodeled Ogbo Primary School in Ubakala, Umuahia South, as part of the state government’s drive to transform public education through its Smart School initiative.
The inspection formed part of a statewide quality assurance and monitoring exercise designed to ensure that ongoing educational infrastructure projects comply with approved standards and reflect the administration’s vision for technology-driven learning.

At the school, the Deputy Governor and his delegation were received by Mrs. Orieji Emele, Managing Director of Blue Giraffe, the contracting firm handling the remodeling project. She guided the team through the upgraded facility, outlining the extensive improvements that have repositioned the school as a modern learning hub equipped with digital tools and enhanced safety systems.

The remodeled Ogbo Primary School now has capacity for 300 primary pupils and 90 nursery pupils, with provision for future expansion. The facility boasts 10 well-ventilated primary classrooms, three nursery classrooms and three additional overflow classrooms, all fitted with modern instructional materials.
Other key features include a sick bay; a fully air-conditioned ICT laboratory equipped with 30 all-in-one computer systems and a dedicated server room; a staff office; a library and resource centre; a central security and CCTV monitoring unit; and 16 convenience rooms serving both pupils and staff.
The delegation also inspected the school’s integrated safety infrastructure, which includes clearly marked fire exits, an emergency evacuation plan with a designated muster point, and an on-site fire hydrant system. A spacious playground outfitted with contemporary recreational equipment to promote physical development and early childhood learning was equally assessed.
Commending the standard of work, Emetu described the project as a tangible expression of the administration’s commitment to providing an enabling environment that promotes academic excellence, innovation and holistic development among pupils.
The inspection team later proceeded to City Primary School on School Road in Umuahia North for an on-the-spot assessment. The school is among those earmarked for upgrade under the state’s Smart School transformation programme.
According to the Deputy Governor, the visit provided an opportunity to evaluate existing infrastructure, identify priority areas for intervention and determine the scope of modernization required to meet smart learning standards.
He reaffirmed that the government remains methodical and results-driven in its approach to educational reform, emphasizing that investments in school infrastructure must translate into measurable improvements in teaching and learning outcomes.
Upon commissioning, Ogbo Primary School is expected to serve as a model Smart School, reinforcing Abia State’s leadership in innovative educational infrastructure development in Nigeria.
Members of the delegation included the Secretary to the State Government, Dr. Emmanuel Meribole; the Chief of Staff to the Governor, Pastor Caleb Ajagba; and the Director of the Project Investment Bureau, Mr. Onyinye Nwosu.
