The General Manager, Umuahia Capital Development Authority Mr Kingsley Agomo has disclosed that governor Alex Otti met a state lacking basic infrastructure. He stated that the governor has vowed to bring back the legacy projects of The governor of old Imo state, Sam Mbakwe and Michael Okpara.
The GM stated this when members of Correspondents Chapel of Abia NUJ paid him a courtesy call in his office in Umuahia. He disclosed that alot of persons are amazed at the quantum of development that has taken place in Abia in just 2yrs and 6months.
He revealed that the governor has said it severally that he has keyed into the developmental strides of his role modern Michael Okpara and Sam Mbakwe, noting that the governor is intentional in bringing the state at par with other develop cities across the world.
He said before now when ever he comes around to Umuahia he was always sad over the unplanned nature of Umuahia. He said he never envisaged that one day, he will be the GM of UCDA.
“We must get things right, every projectors on the streets of Umuahia removed, every structures blocking path ways and drainages removed is for the good of the state. Our cities must be planned properly.
“Before now Umuahia is like a glorified village, we often use potholes to give description but all this is now in the past, you can hardly see potholes on our streets now. Before, if you say you are from Abia people will sympathize with you. Umuahia city was nothing to write home about all this now are in the past”.
Agomo revealed that before the coming of his administration people behaved any how, taking laws into their hands just because they find themselves in government but now reverse are now the case.
We do not have inter connecting estate, we need to make sacrifice to move forward, Abia was caged. We removed Adelabu estate gate to give room for connectivity, no one should take laws into their hands”
He regretted that people were intentionally moving out of the state but now more people are relocating into the state because of the development taking place in the state, adding that Abia narrative is changing.
The GM of UCDA added that every part of Umuahia is been beautified as flowers, tries and artistic pictures are adored across major fences in Umuahia the state capital.
He said the governor in all he do add human face to it, he said compensation have been paid to individuals whose properties were destroyed as a result of road expansion and other development.
Mr Agomo further disclosed that the reason for building collapse is as a result of substandard building materials procure.
He said to bring to an end the era of building collapse, UCDA build laboratory for testing building materials in it office. He said it is now compulsory for any building been erected in the state, must bring their materials for testing in the Lab .
Responding the Chairman of Correspondents Chapel of Abia NUJ, Deacon Steve Oko thanked the GM and UCDA for changing the story of Umuahia by bringing development to the state capital.
He said Correspondent Chapel are poised to publicize the activities of UCDA.
