ABIA STATE GOVT COMPENSATES OVER 4000 ABIA AIRPORT LAND DONORS

Abia State government say she has paid compensation to over 4000 land Donors in the Abia airport project .

Speaking during the February 2026 edition of the monthly media chat with pressmen at the banquet hall of government house Umuahia, the state governor disclosed that out of the over 10,000 Claimants , his government’ have been able to pay over 4,000 Donors , while the payment for others is currently on going
for those whose lands are located along the proposed run way of the airport.

The Governor noted that his government is making payment stage by stage and described negative reports of the payments as a hatchet job. .
He expressed satisfaction that payment have resumed after some series of meetings with the Donors .
. He warned that anyone caught engaging in any shape practice would be dealt with , while assuring that those who ought to be paid would be paid .

The Governor announced the Abia Electric Bus Services, the Green shuttles would from March 1st commence subsidized charge services with a token fare of 800 Naira only from Umuahia to Aba and 1,000 Naira only for Umuahia to Ohafia routes.

He noted that it is going to be cheap, and that it is going to be organised in a digital manner, that cash would not be accepted but payment will be with automated teller machine card.

Governor Otti said that the Umuahia Central Bus Terminal is designed to be the operational base for the buses in Umuahia while Aba would soon have their own Terminal.

On the recent security concerns around Umuahia South, the Governor reassured his commitment to securing every part of the state. Stating that all Security Agencies are collaborating to ensure security of lives and properties in the state.

“We set up the Security Trust Fund, we set up the Security Advisory Committee, and they are working very hard together with the security agencies, the police, the DSS, Nigerian Army, and the Navy,” Gov. Otti stated.

The state chief executive also clarified that, it is the state government that owns the Radisson Blu the Enyimba Hotels project handlers with 80 percent share to Abia state government and 20 percent share to the families of the pathfinders in the investment of the project.

He hilighted some progresse recently made in various sectors, especially infrastructure, where he had declared state of emergency, including healthcare, education, industry and SME among others, and noted that, he has instructed the restoration of electric power to Ukwa East as the processes of restoring power for those of Bende and Ohafia are ongoing.
