Abía State government will tomorrow the 13th of April 2026 kick off free medical treatment to all residents in Abia State who needs medical attention .

The cheering news was made known by the Commissioner for Health Prof Enoch Ogbonnaya Uche penultimate Friday while briefing the press on activities marking the beginning of Abía and ANPA Free medical treatment. In Abia .The Commissioner said the ministry of Health will supervise the event the free medical treatment is to be done in partnership with the Association of Nigerian Physicians In America ANPA.

He stated that the program will last from the 13th to 17th of April 2026. According to him , the treatments will take place in two major centres ,Aba General Hospital and the Abia State Specialist hospital and Diagnostic centre Umuahia.

Major surgeries will take place at Aba General Hospital Aba while eye care and eye surgeries will be in Abia State Specialist Hospital Umuahia . He explained that 25 Doctors of ANPA including two Ophthalmologist, are to arrive Abia State on the 12th of April 2026 while about 50 Doctors from Abía are expected to work with the team to give free medical surgeries and free medical Consultations to the people of Abia .

He said the ANPA team will provide the skill , expertise and some consumables as part of their contributions to the free medical mission while Abia state would provide the logistics among others .

The medical mission will feature sexual and reproductive health education, training of health Workers and Abia Health Care Rebirth Initiative Program the Commissioner stated .

Prof Uche appreciated the state governor Dr Alex Otti for his full support of the program and initiating it following the huge success recorded by the first mission in 2024 .

The Abia State Team Lead of the program and Director General of ABSACA Dr Uloaku Ukaegbu said all is set for the program to commence . According to her all that need to be done have been done including creating enough awareness . She assured that the 2026 ANPA , Abia Free Medical treatment , program would record a huge success just as that of 2024
