The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State says the party have been repositioned to take over power in the state come 2027 .

The Chairman of the party in Abia State Hon. Chijioke Chukwu made this assertion recently during their pre_primaries Stakeholders meeting which took place at the party’s new Secretaries along Finbarrs road Umuahia .
Hon. Chijioke Chukwu, said the party had overcome its challenges and was now strong and prepared to win elections. He commended the calibre of people who had joined the party, adding that they would spring surprises in the coming general elections.

He said that since the State Working Committee under his leadership came into office a few months ago, it had united the party further and screened aspirants without rancour or infighting.

“What we have now is a radical departure from what was happening before. This party is now the final destination. All leaders that make Abia tick are here. We have no reason not to succeed. The owners of polling units are here. We must place the party before any other person,” he said.

Also speaking, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu representing Abia North Senatorial zone , said the days of bickering and quarrels are over. He urged aspirants to play by the rules, noting that with the calibre of people present, the party is well positioned to win massively.

In his speech, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, said he was impressed with the calibre of people who had indicated interest in contesting for various positions.

He maintained that what they set out to do three years ago had yielded fruit, creating a party people now struggle to join.

“Today, whatever we are determined to do, we will do. We have repositioned and will bring an unprecedented number of votes to the party,” he said.

“There is no automatic ticket or list from anybody. If you like, bring and circulate a list, you are wasting your time. You either agree by consensus, or if you don’t agree, we go for direct primaries. We are not going to impose any candidate. Whoever wins will contest. Our prayer is that the party will not disintegrate,” he added.

“Everyone wants to occupy office at the same time. I waited 17 years, and today I am Deputy Speaker. The 17 years I lost, I have gained back. Don’t give up. If you do not win today, don’t be disappointed,” the Deputy Speaker said.

Speaking separately, governorship aspirants Chief Mascot Uzor Kalu, Chief Henry Ikoh, and Chiedu Eric Opa said they would turn the state around if given the opportunity. They urged members to remain steadfast in the party, regardless of the primary outcome.

Other aspirants, including Chief Erondu Uche Erondu, immediate past Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly Engr Chinedum Orji, Lilian Obenwa, Mary Ikoku, Chief Tony Igbokwe, and Chikwudi Apugo, also pledged their loyalty to the party and expressed confidence that the primaries would be free, fair, and credible.

Giving details of the screening exercise, the State Organising Secretary, Barr. Emeka Okoroafor, said 64 aspirants purchased forms for the State House of Assembly, while one aspirant was disqualified.

He added that three governorship aspirants, nine senatorial aspirants, and 24 House of Representatives aspirants were screened.

He said the party had adopted direct primaries, with elections to be conducted simultaneously across wards in the state. He reiterated that only party members who were up to date with their financial obligations would be eligible to vote. He promised a free, fair, and transparent process for all aspirants.
