Mascot Kalu Confident of APC Governorship Ticket, Promises Institutional Reforms in Abia.

A governorship aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mascot Orji Kalu, has expressed confidence in his chances of emerging as the party’s candidate ahead of the 2027 Abia governorship election, citing his wealth of experience in both the public and private sectors.

Speaking with journalists shortly after the APC pre-primary election held at the party secretariat in Umuahia, Kalu said he possesses the competence, experience and capacity required to govern Abia State effectively.

According to him, his background as a political office holder, financial analyst and stockbroker has adequately prepared him for the task of leadership.

“With all due respect to other candidates, I believe I am the most experienced candidate in this race. I have worked as a political staff, I come from the private sector, I am a financial analyst and also a stockbroker. I have the requisite experience and capacity to become governor,” he stated.

The APC chieftain also expressed confidence in the party’s primary process, particularly the adoption of the A4 direct primary option, saying he believes the exercise would be smooth and successful.

Kalu dismissed concerns over alleged imposition of candidates within the party, stressing that the process would allow party members to freely make their choices.

Speaking on his vision for Abia State if elected governor, Kalu pledged to focus on building strong institutions, improving healthcare delivery, enhancing workers’ welfare and ensuring greater efficiency in governance.

He noted that while the present administration had made efforts in governance, there was still room for improvement in service delivery and project execution.

“We expect to build institutions and stabilize governance. Healthcare and workers’ welfare will receive proper attention. We can also improve on efficiency in the way government transactions and projects are handled,” he added.
