Nwokonna Declares Interest in Abia Assembly Race, Woos PDP Delegates

A chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Abia State, Comrade Emmanuel Nwokonna, has formally declared his intention to contest for a seat in the Abia State House of Assembly ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Nwokonna, an indigene of Umuezike Ofeme in Ohuhu, Umuahia North Local Government Area, is seeking to emerge as the PDP candidate for the state legislature, presenting himself as a credible and people-oriented aspirant capable of delivering victory for the party.

In campaign materials currently in circulation, the House of Assembly hopeful described himself as the “winning choice” for PDP delegates, expressing confidence in his ability to provide effective representation and strengthen the party’s chances in the forthcoming elections.

The aspirant, who holds a Bachelor’s degree in International Marketing, said his aspiration is driven by a desire to promote grassroots development and improve the welfare of constituents through responsive legislation and effective representation.

Nwokonna outlined key areas of focus for his proposed legislative agenda to include infrastructure development, youth empowerment, job creation, healthcare, education, agriculture, industrialization and security.

He also pledged to champion laws that would enhance workers’ welfare, pension reforms and accountability in governance if elected into office.

Describing himself as a public affairs analyst and business turnaround expert, Nwokonna emphasized his longstanding commitment to the PDP, noting that he has remained a loyal member of the party since 2005.

Supporters of the aspirant maintained that his entrance into the race represents a departure from what they termed “politics as usual,” arguing that he possesses the capacity to bring fresh ideas and purposeful leadership to the Abia State House of Assembly.

The Ofeme-born politician, who also has maternal roots in Isuikwuato Local Government Area, is expected to join other aspirants in what political observers believe may become a keenly contested PDP primary ahead of the 2027 elections.

His declaration comes as political activities and consultations gradually gather momentum across Abia State in preparation for the next electoral cycle.
