PDP Unveils Kelechi Anosike as 2027 Governorship Candidate, Criticises Abia Government
The Abia State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has formally unveiled Barr. Kelechi Anosike, PhD, as its governorship candidate for the 2027 election, expressing confidence in his capacity to provide purposeful leadership and reposition the state for sustainable development
Speaking during a media briefing at the PDP State Secretariat in Umuahia, the State Chairman of the party, Abraham Amah, described Anosike as a competent, visionary and experienced leader whose emergence as the party’s standard bearer reflected the collective will of PDP members across the state.
Amah said the choice of Anosike signalled the beginning of a renewed commitment by the opposition party to offer Abians a credible and people-centred alternative ahead of the next governorship election.
According to him, Anosike possesses the intellectual depth, legal expertise, administrative experience and political maturity required to tackle the developmental challenges confronting Abia State and place the state on the path of growth and prosperity.
The PDP chairman used the occasion to criticise the performance of the current administration in the state, insisting that governance should be measured by visible achievements and improved living conditions rather than public relations campaigns.
He argued that despite increased allocations to states following the removal of fuel subsidy by the Federal Government, the present administration had failed to convert the available resources into meaningful development and economic benefits for the people.
Amah maintained that Abians deserve a government focused on job creation, infrastructure renewal, economic expansion, institutional efficiency and improved standards of living.
He further disclosed that the PDP deliberately searched for a governorship candidate with proven character, competence, courage and the ability to unite stakeholders across the state in preparation for the 2027 election.
According to him, after extensive consultations and a democratic selection process, the party unanimously settled for Anosike as its flag bearer, expressing confidence that he possesses the leadership qualities necessary to transform the state.
Amah also called on the media and residents of the state to critically engage with the PDP’s vision and programmes, stressing that the party remains committed to providing effective leadership and a clear governance blueprint for the people of Abia State.
He reaffirmed the PDP’s determination to reclaim power in the state in 2027, saying the party is prepared to offer a government anchored on accountability, development and the welfare of the people.
