2027: Igbo youths vow to retire old, ineffective politicians- Ukpabi

The apex Igbo youths sociocultural organisation, the Ohaneze Youths Council (OYC) has disclosed the intention of worldwide Igbo youths umbrella to stop further emergent of old and expired politicians of Igbo extraction from winning any elective positions come 2027 elections.

National Publicity Secretary of the Council, Comrade Authority Michael Ukpabi, disclosed this during the Council’s courtesy visit to Abia state deputy governor Engr Ikechukwu Emetu in his office at Government House , Umuahia said that the affected politicians are those who are known to have not represented Igbo interest very well with their positions.

Comrade Ukpabi said that with the 60 percent population being the youth and with their structures at the political wards, federal and state Constituencies, local government, and state levels, they have mapped out all the polling units and are determined to retired all these expired and inactive politicians from bethroding the Igbo political space.

He maintained that OYC as the apex Igbo Youths Socio-cultural Organization, the council’s goal aimed at protecting the interest of all Igbo Youths worldwide and said that the new executive was working towards reactivating Local Government Chapters of OYC in Abia State.

The National Publicity Secretary who is also a  Special Assistant to Abia deputy governor commended Chief Emetu’s leadership style and assured him of OYC’s unwavering support in promoting the state’s and pledged their support for Gov. Otti’s administration.

He disclosed said that the Abia Chapter was the first State among member states to organize a convention that produced the new Executives adding that they are actively present in the 17 Local government areas, eight Federal Constituencies, 24 State Constituencies and 184 Political Wards.

He assured His Excellency that through their structures, they are poised to ensure that the reelection of the governor come 2027 and said that the meeting marked a significant step towards fostering collaboration between the state government and OYC with the aim to drive progress and development in Abia State.

Responding, the Deputy Governor, Engr Ikechukwu Emetu, called on the OYC to rise to the challenge of building a better society.

Chief Emetu expressed his appreciation for the OYC’s initiative and readiness to work with the state government, led by Dr. Alex Otti emphasized the importance of shunning corruption and working collectively to achieve progress in the state.

The Deputy Governor also acknowledged the crucial role of the youth in shaping the present and future of Abia State.

The OYC state chairman, Comrade Eugene Okonta, in his own remark presented the newly elected members to the deputy governor and outlined their 2025 agenda to include structure for the organization in the state, hosting the 2025 Abia Youth Summit, and partnering with the state government to uphold the socio-cultural values of the Igbo nation.
