DAY 2: ABIA STATE POLICE COMMAND MARKS NIGERIA POLICE WOMEN @ 70 WITH STAKEHOLDERS’ ENGAGEMENT MEETING

As part of activities marking the 70th anniversary celebration of the Nigeria Police Women, the Abia State Police Command recently held a Stakeholders’ Engagement Meeting aimed at strengthening partnerships and promoting gender inclusion within the policing ecosystem.

The event, held in Umuahia, recorded an impressive turnout of representatives from key institutions and women-focused organizations. In attendance were delegates from the Abia State Ministry of Women Affairs, the Police Officers’ Wives Association (POWA), the International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA) Umuahia Branch, the Society of Women Accountants of Nigeria (SWAN) Umuahia Chapter, the Women Wing of the Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) Abia Chapter, and the Child Protection Network.

Also present were members of the Nigeria Association of Private Proprietors of Schools, Abia Chapter, as well as students from JOMEG and Winning Youth Christian Academy.

The engagement featured a series of impactful presentations. DSP Okere Mary-Jane Nneka delivered a thought-provoking paper titled “Redefining the Future of Women in Policing,” highlighting evolving opportunities and the increasing relevance of women in law enforcement.

A health talk was delivered by the Senior Matron of the Police Medical Services, CSP Rosemary Chukwuma. In addition, CSP Ngozi Kanu, Officer-in-Charge of Gender at the State Criminal Investigation Department, lectured on Sexual and Gender-Based Violence, shedding light on prevailing challenges and existing intervention strategies.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Danladi Isa, gave inspiring remarks encouraging sustained advocacy for gender equity within the Force. Stakeholders presented goodwill messages, while invited students shared their impressions, underscoring the event’s positive impact on the younger generation. The ceremony also featured award presentations and interactive sessions that enriched the day’s activities.

The meeting concluded with a renewed commitment from all participating bodies to work collaboratively in promoting gender inclusion, strengthening community police partnerships, and inspiring the next generation of women police officers in Abia State and beyond.
