GOVT FROWN AT ACTIVITIES OF TRADERS AT ORIE UGBA MARKET

The state government have expressed their displeasure at the activities of some market traders and motor parks during period of the Sanitation exercise

Addressing Newsmen at the end of the month of February sanitation exercise , the Commissioner for Environment Hon philemon Asonye Ogbonna , represented by his Head of Department Pollution Control and Environmental Health Mrs. Happiness Akpulonu said though she was impressed by the level of turn out of people and the high rate of compliance , she was not satisfied with the activities of motor parks especially Okigwe Motor park Umuahia . The Managers she said were busy loading passengers during the period of the sanitation exercise.

Mrs Akpulonu commended those who came out and participate in the Sanitation exercise but frowned at Defaulters saying it is not going to be Uhuru for sanitation Offenders in the next clean up exercise.

Speaking on his impression on the day’s exercise, the Abia state House Assembly Committee Chairman on Environment Hon Kalu Mba Nwoke said the level of compliance was very high and very commendable . He urged the people of Abia to increase the tempo to enable the state be contineously clean . He promised that the refuse dump at Orie Ugba market would be evacuated before the next sanitation exercise saying he has liassed with the Deputy General Manager of ASEPA Umuahia zone Catechist Ambrose Jonah , for the evacuation .

Hon . Nwoke however condemned the activities of traders at Orie Ugba market who carry on business activities while the Sanitation exercise is still on going . He said government’ would step up enforcement by the next Sanitation exercise. He said any trader found buying and selling during the exercise would be arrested band prosecuted as usual .
