ABOUT A 100 SPEALISED SURGERIES EXPECTED AT ABIA ,ANPA FREE MEDICAL MISSION

The Abía State Commissioner for Information Prince Okey Kanu have stated that the state is expecting about 100 surgical operations to be performed and over 1500
medical consultations to be done in the Abia, ANPA Free medical mission which kicked off on the 24th of April 2026.

The Commissioner made this assertion on Monday the 13th of April 2026 at the government house Umuahia while briefing the press on major decisions reached at the week’s Executive Council Meeting presided over by the state governor Dr Alex Otti.

He said as the free medical treatment starts the next day , and the above are expected to be achieved . The surgeries he said would take place in Aba general hospital while all eye cases would be attended to in Abia specialist hospital and Diagnostic centre Umuahia .

health would take place in Ogbonnaya Onu Polytechnic Aba.

He disclosed that following the visitation of a medical team from the World Bank to Abía , the state have been cleared to benefit from 250 million dollars World Bank grant on health security
in Nigeria. He said Abia benefited as a result of the on going revolution in the health sector of the state .

He informed that the Rural Emergency Services and Maternal Transport Programme of the federal government has kicked off in the state .
He noted that the programme started with three LGAs of Bende, Obingwa and Ukwa East known to have the highest maternal mortality rate in the state.

He said the major aim of the programme is to provide emergency care in order to reduce maternal, child and neonatal mortality.

He announced that during the period under review, there were no reports of diseases of public health importance in the state, such as Lassa fever, M-pox, diphtheria, yellow fever, cholera .

The Information boss revealed that the result of the oral interview for the batch two of the candidates for teachers recruitment exercise, who were shortlisted after the CBT test that held recently is being compiled, and all the successful candidates would be communicated in due course.
He said over 7,280 candidates scored above 40% and everybody will be given a fair chance based on his or her performance .

Prince Kanu stated that the Abia State Accelerated Basic Education Programme, aimed at running the six-year primary school curriculum in three years, has commenced.
He noted that the Agency for Mass Literacy, Adult and Non-Formal Education is responsible for the programme and wishes that all Abia residents, who could not conclude their basic education should take advantage of the opportunity to sit and obtain their first school living certificate in the state.
