Okoro Declares for Bende North Assembly Seat, Unveils “PROMISE Manifesto”

A former Deputy Chairman of Bende Local Government Area, Hon. Chief Promise Uzoma Okoro (PUO), has formally declared his intention to contest the Bende North State Constituency seat in the Abia State House of Assembly on the platform of the Labour Party (LP) ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Okoro made the announcement at a well-attended political gathering that brought together party leaders, stakeholders, ward chairmen, women and youth leaders, councillors, and supporters from across the constituency.

Describing his decision as a defining moment marked by purpose, conviction, and responsibility, the aspirant said his ambition is driven by a commitment to delivering people-oriented and result-driven legislative representation.

He commended the Governor of Abia State, Dr. Alex Chioma Otti, for what he termed transformative leadership, highlighting ongoing projects such as the construction of Umunneato General Hospital, road infrastructure development across Abia North, erosion control initiatives, and the expansion of primary healthcare centres.

According to him, these efforts reflect the impact of purposeful governance in restoring public confidence and improving citizens’ welfare.

Reflecting on his tenure as Deputy Chairman of Bende LGA from 2020 to 2022, Okoro noted that his administration focused on grassroots engagement, accessibility, and collaboration, which, he said, translated into tangible community development.

He stressed, however, that Bende North requires more responsive legislative representation that is visible, accessible, and closely connected to the people.

While acknowledging the efforts of the current lawmaker, Okoro called for a new leadership direction built on competence, innovation, inclusiveness, and measurable outcomes.

He also pointed to the constituency’s political history, noting that no lawmaker has secured re-election since 2011, which he described as an indication of the electorate’s desire for renewed representation.

At the event, Okoro unveiled his development blueprint, the “PROMISE Manifesto,” an agenda centered on people-focused representation, rural infrastructure development, youth and women empowerment, improved healthcare systems, institutional transparency, enhanced security, and education-driven human capital development.

He described the manifesto as a covenant of service and pledged to prioritize the welfare and aspirations of the people if elected.

Okoro further disclosed that he has been consulting widely since 2025 and remains committed to inclusive dialogue and consensus-building across the constituency.

“My aspiration is not driven by personal ambition alone, but by a burden to serve, uplift, and transform Bende North through quality representation,” he said.

Expressing confidence in his political strength and grassroots support, he assured party members of his readiness to secure victory for the Labour Party and deliver impactful representation.

“If given the opportunity, I will not only represent you, I will make you proud,” he added.

His declaration is expected to significantly shape the political landscape in Bende North as preparations gradually gather momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections.
