Bende PDP Chairman,13 Ward Executives Defect As Emetu,Chima Anyaso Recieve Them.

Deputy Governor of Abia State, Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu, has described the defection of the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Bende Local Government Area, Ihechi Philips, and executives from the 13 wards of the party in the council to the Labour Party as a major boost to the growing political momentum of the party in Abia State.

Emetu spoke while formally receiving the defectors during a ceremony held at Igbere in Bende Local Government Area. The event, which took place at the country home of Chimaobi Desmond Anyaso, also featured an endorsement of Governor Alex Otti for a second term in 2027.

The Deputy Governor described the move by the former PDP officials as courageous and progressive, assuring them that they would be fully integrated into the Labour Party and carried along in the programmes and activities of the government.

According to Emetu, the increasing wave of defections into the Labour Party across the state is a reflection of growing public confidence in the administration and its commitment to delivering the dividends of democracy.

He said the performance of the Otti-led administration had continued to attract support from different political blocs and communities, adding that the government remained focused on sustaining reforms and development across the state.

Speaking at the event, Dr. Chimaobi Desmond Anyaso commended Hon. Philips and the ward executives for joining the Labour Party and identifying with the “Otti Again 2027” movement.

Anyaso said the administration of Governor Alex Otti had delivered visible results that many previous administrations could not achieve in over two decades, noting that the defectors had already expressed their readiness to support the governor’s re-election bid.

He said the impact of the current administration had become evident across the state, particularly in road construction, infrastructure renewal and other critical development projects, stressing that many residents could no longer ignore the changes taking place.

Anyaso urged the new entrants into the Labour Party to remain committed to the ideals of the party and to work collectively toward sustaining the ongoing reforms and development initiatives of the present administration.

Speaking on behalf of the defectors, Hon. Ihechi Philips said their decision to leave the PDP was informed by what he described as the visible achievements of the present administration and the far-reaching reforms taking place across Abia State.

He said it had become increasingly difficult for members of the opposition to campaign against Governor Alex Otti in view of the administration’s performance in road infrastructure, governance reforms and other developmental projects.

Philips maintained that the achievements recorded by the current administration in less than three years had surpassed what previous governments in the state were unable to accomplish in the last 24 years.

He explained that the desire to sustain the ongoing reforms and consolidate the developmental strides of the Otti-led administration informed the decision of the defectors to collapse the PDP structure in Bende Local Government Area into the Labour Party.
