Abia Police Arrest Two Over Armed Robbery, Cultism, Pipeline Vandalism; Recover Firearms.

The Abia State Police Command has arrested two suspects in separate operations linked to alleged armed robbery, cultism and vandalization of government property, with firearms recovered during the raids.

According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, Abia State Command, DSP Maureen Chioma Chinaka, operatives of the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU), acting on actionable intelligence, on May 6 apprehended 21-year-old Michael Kalu, an indigene of Afikpo North Local Government Area of Ebonyi State who resides in Amuma Ohafia, Abia State.

Police described him as a suspected armed robber and cultist.

Items recovered from the suspect included one English pistol and one locally made pistol.

In a related development, operatives of the Osisioma Divisional Police Headquarters arrested 23-year-old Obinna Chimezie in Osisioma while allegedly vandalizing a gas pipeline supplying gas to Geometric Power.

Police said the suspect, who resides at Borrowed Pit, off Temple Gate along the Enugu–Port Harcourt Expressway, was apprehended with a toy gun. Officers also destroyed a tent allegedly being used for drug-related activities in the area.

The two suspects are currently in police custody, while investigations have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID). The command said the suspects would be charged to court after the conclusion of investigations.

Reaffirming the command’s resolve to protect lives and property across the state, the Commissioner of Police, Danladi Isa, called on residents of Abia State to support law enforcement agencies with timely and credible information to aid crime prevention.
