Police Nab Two Suspected Gun Runners in Aba, Recover Pistol and Ammunition

The Abia State Police Command has arrested two suspects for unlawful possession of firearms and recovered a locally made pistol, live ammunition, cartridges and other exhibits during a stop-and-search operation in Aba.

The suspects, identified as David Emmanuel, 33, and Joel Emeka, 25, were apprehended by operatives of the Nediegoro Divisional Police Headquarters on June 12, 2026.

According to a statement issued on Thursday by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Maureen Chioma Chinaka, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, the suspects were intercepted while travelling in an auto rickshaw along Azikiwe Road by Kent Road, Aba.

The police spokesperson disclosed that during the operation, one of the occupants of the vehicle fled the scene, while the two suspects were immediately arrested.

She said a search conducted on the suspects led to the recovery of a locally made pistol, one live round of ammunition, live cartridges, a small black bag and the auto rickshaw used by the suspects.

DSP Chinaka stated that the suspects are currently in police custody, while investigations have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further action.

She added that the suspects would be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.

The Command reiterated its commitment to protecting lives and property across the state and urged residents to support security agencies by reporting suspicious activities and security concerns to the nearest police station or through its emergency hotlines.

The police assured members of the public that efforts to rid the state of criminal elements would continue unabated.
