The Labour Party candidate for Bende Federal Constituency in the 2027 general elections, Dr. Chimaobi Desmond Anyaso, has intensified efforts to expand the party’s political base by urging former Abia State House of Assembly member, Hon. Chukwudi Apugo, to join the Labour Party.

Anyaso made the appeal on Friday during a visit to Apugo’s country home at Nkata Ibeku in Umuahia North Local Government Area, where he described the Labour Party as the preferred platform for individuals committed to good governance, accountability and service to the people.

The Labour Party standard-bearer praised the administration of Dr. Alex Otti, stating that the governor’s leadership had transformed Abia State and positioned it for sustainable development.

He urged political leaders with integrity and a passion for public service to align with the party in order to consolidate on the gains recorded by the current administration.

According to Anyaso, the progress witnessed across the state under Governor Otti’s leadership should be protected and sustained through collective support from well-meaning political stakeholders.

He maintained that politics should be driven by service and the desire to improve the welfare of the people rather than personal interests, adding that members of his political movement were committed to advancing the development agenda of the state.

“Abia is working, and there is no justification for supporting any platform that seeks to reverse the gains already achieved. Governor Alex Otti needs people who are genuinely committed to serving the people,” he said.

In his response, Apugo, who formerly represented Umuahia East State Constituency in the Abia State House of Assembly, commended Governor Otti’s administration for its responsiveness and commitment to development.

The former lawmaker disclosed that the Certificate of Occupancy for his private school, which he had unsuccessfully pursued while in public office, was approved under the current administration.

He also expressed dissatisfaction with the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State, alleging that he was marginalized following the last House of Representatives election.

Apugo further declared that he would not support any APC candidate seeking election into the National Assembly in the 2027 general elections..

Earlier, the Director-General of the Chima Anyaso Campaign Organization, Pastor Dike Okechukwu, said the visit was aimed at seeking Apugo’s support for the Labour Party and Governor Otti’s re-election bid.

Okechukwu expressed optimism that Apugo’s eventual decision to join the party would strengthen the Labour Party’s political structure in Ibeku and other parts of the state.

Also speaking, Labour Party chieftain and former Chief of Staff to a former Abia State governor, Prof. ACB Agbazuere, urged Apugo to formally align with the Labour Party, describing Governor Otti’s administration as one that has earned widespread support across the state.

Agbazuere noted that the governor’s performance had continued to attract endorsements from various political stakeholders and urged all well-meaning Abians to support the continuity of the administration’s development agenda.
