Abia Police Dismantle Suspected Criminal Camp in Umunneochi Forest.

The Abia State Police Command has announced the destruction of a suspected criminal camp located in Unuobasi Forest, Umunneochi Local Government Area, as part of ongoing efforts to rid the state of criminal elements.

According to a statement issued on Thursday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Maureen Chioma Chinaka, the operation was carried out by operatives of the Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) in collaboration with a local security outfit in Umuobasi.

The statement disclosed that the operation, which took place on June 28, 2026, followed actionable intelligence that led security operatives to the suspected hideout within the forest. During the raid, the camp was identified and destroyed, while criminal activities in the area were disrupted.

The police spokesperson noted that security monitoring of the forest and surrounding communities remains ongoing to prevent the re-establishment of criminal bases and to ensure sustained safety in the area.

Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, Abia State Command, Danladi Isa, assured residents that there would be no safe haven for criminals anywhere in the state.

He reiterated the Command’s commitment to its constitutional responsibility of preventing crime and apprehending offenders, stressing that the police would continue to take proactive measures against criminal elements and dismantle their operational bases.

The Commissioner urged members of the public to remain vigilant and support security agencies by providing timely information on suspicious persons, movements, and activities within their communities.

He emphasized that effective policing requires active collaboration between law enforcement agencies and residents, adding that intelligence from the public remains crucial in the fight against crime.

The Command further advised residents to report security concerns to the nearest police station or through its emergency response lines as part of collective efforts to maintain peace and security across Abia State.

The police reaffirmed their commitment to safeguarding lives and property, assuring citizens that operations against criminal hideouts would continue across the state.
