Abia Police arrest 22-year-old suspected armed robber in Isuochi, recover fake pistol-like lighter and other exhibits.

The Abia State Police Command has arrested a 22-year-old suspected armed robber, identified as Chidera Okorie, for allegedly terrorising unsuspecting residents in Isuochi by using a fake pistol to rob victims of their belongings.

The Command disclosed this in a press release issued on Saturday by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Maureen Chioma Chinaka, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police.

According to the statement, the suspect, who hails from Obinolu Ngodo Isiochi in Umunneochi Local Government Area, was apprehended by operatives of the Isuochi Divisional Police Headquarters on July 5, 2026, following credible intelligence.

Police said preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect habitually robbed members of the public with a stainless steel lighter specially designed to resemble a pistol, using it to intimidate and instil fear in his victims before dispossessing them of their valuables.

The Command further disclosed that several items connected to the alleged criminal activities were recovered from the suspect during his arrest.

It added that investigations are ongoing and assured that the suspect would be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of investigations.

The Police Command urged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities or security concerns to the nearest police station or through its emergency hotlines.

The Command reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property across the state, urging residents to support ongoing security efforts by providing timely and credible information.
