ABIA STATE GOVT TO MONITOR THE MOVEMENT OF PUPILS FROM ONE SCHOOL TO ANOTHER

For orderliness and discipline , the Abia State government through the ministry of education shall henceforth monitor the movement of pupils from one school to another .

This was part of the decisions reached during the week’s Executive Council meeting Chaired by the state governor Dr Alex Otti.

The Abia state Commissioner for Information , Prince Okey Kanu disclosed this yesterday the 16th of February 2026 at the government house Umuahia, while briefing the press on the outcome of the week’s meeting .

Prince Kanu said the state government have introduced an initiative known as Education Management and Information System EMIS , with this initiative government is to merge information data and processes of basic and secondry Schools into one central data base .

This he said will help government’ to gather adequate data of pupils and Students in basic and secondry Schools as to help monitor the activities of pupils and Students including their progress and movement from one school to snother school saying that government’ have noticed that some pupils and Students change school at will both in private and in public schools Without any control . This he said is unacceptable to government .

The Commissioner hinted that the state government last year recruited 5,494 teachers and planned to employ additional 4,000 teachers . According to the Commissioner a total of 36,415 applicants have so far applied while 24,013 have been cleared to sit for the Computer Based Test CBT .

The Commissioner said that the mass literacy adult and non formal education have kicked off for 2025, 2026 Academic session. He said a campaign is currently going on to create awareness and increase enrollment figure . According to him the Academic program targets school dropouts , traders, and Artisans among others . Registration is currently on going in the 17 LGAs .

In the recently concluded National Basic Education Schools Sports cum Games , Prince Okey Kanu said Abia State came out tops in athletics with 8 gold medals with other medal won in other areas of the competition , Abia came first in the entire tournament.

The Commissioner attributed this Success to the current reforms being witnessed in the state’s youths development programs and in the educational sector , noting that the reforms are yielding expected fruits for the state .

Prince Okey Kanu announced that the governor Dr. Alex Otti will on the 25th of February, formally flag off the construction of the new Five Star Enyimba International Hotel Aba .

The 250-room, five star hotel is being constructed by the Radisson Blu Group, an international Experts in the hospitality Industry .

He said the project is in line with the state government’s industrial transformation agenda .

He noted that the state government had already signed an MOU with Radisson Blu Group , saying the 250 rooms hotel will start operation with 155 rooms and expected to provide over five thousand direct and indirect jobs which would boost internally generated revenue of the state .

On road infrastructure, the Commissioner said that the Ministry of Works have engaged in direct labour works on 14 locations across the state , with four new roads completed .

The four new roads include 14.8 km Alayi-Ugwueke Road in Bende LGA, 1.1 km Awomukwu- Umusokoro road Ikwuano LGA , 900 metres Umusokoro road, Ikwuano LGA, 9.1 km Umunkpeyi- Umuru-Okokiri road, Isialangwa South LGA . some other direct labour works on going in various parts of the state.
