The Labour Party candidate for Bende Federal Constituency, Dr. Chima Anyaso, has engaged with prominent African leaders, Nigerian First Ladies and a leading media entrepreneur on the sidelines of the 81st Session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA 81) in New York, United States.

Among those who met with Anyaso was the former President of Mauritius, Dr. Ameenah Gurib-Fakim, who served as the country’s President from 2015 to 2018.

The engagements also included the First Lady of Abia State, Mrs. Priscilla Otti; First Lady of Katsina State, Hajiya Fatima Dikko Radda; and First Lady of Ebonyi State, Chief Mrs. Mary-Maudline Uzoamaka Nwifuru.

Anyaso also met with Mr. Anthony Dara, founder of News Central Media and a Nigerian media entrepreneur involved in the development of broadcast media platforms in Nigeria and across Africa.

The meetings were held as world leaders, policymakers, development partners, business leaders and other stakeholders gathered in New York for the high-level week of the 81st UN General Assembly, scheduled for September 22 to 28, 2026.

The 2026 General Debate is being held under the theme, “Restoring trust, managing transformation: A United Nations that delivers for all.”
According to the engagements, Anyaso’s participation provided an opportunity to interact with personalities with experience in governance, diplomacy, development, media and public leadership, while exchanging views on sustainable development, international cooperation and Africa’s development.

His participation in UNGA also forms part of his wider engagements in New York, including his participation in a Global Reputation Forum UNGA 2026 side event focused on “Beyond Borders, Building Prosperity That Lasts: The Sustainable Development Agenda.”

The event provides a platform for discussions around development, investment, partnerships, innovation and sustainable prosperity, with Anyaso’s participation bringing Bende into the broader conversations on development and international cooperation.
