CP Afolabi Assures Corps Members: “Your Safety Is Guaranteed in Abia”
The Abia State Commissioner of Police, CP Wilfred Olutokunbo Afolabi, has assured members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) deployed to the state of adequate security, following the recent abduction of some corps members travelling to their orientation camp in Imo State.
CP Afolabi gave the assurance on Monday, October 5, 2026, when he visited the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp at Umunna, Bende Local Government Area, where the 2026 Batch ‘C’ Stream I corps members are undergoing their orientation exercise.

The visit, according to the Police Commissioner, was aimed at commiserating with the corps members over the unfortunate incident, boosting their morale and reassuring them of the commitment of the Abia State Police Command to their safety throughout their service year.
The Commissioner, who was received with a guard of honour, Taekwondo demonstrations and welcome songs by the corps members, commended the NYSC camp management for maintaining discipline, orderliness and effective coordination.

He formally welcomed the corps members to Abia State and described the state as one of the safest in the South-East, assuring them that the Police Command had put in place robust and proactive security measures to guarantee their safety.
Afolabi also sensitised the corps members on personal security measures and urged them to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious activities or security concerns to the Police.
He provided them with the contact details of Divisional Police Officers, Area Commanders, Tactical Team Commanders and the Command’s emergency hotlines to facilitate quick security response when necessary.
The Commissioner further directed DPOs across the state to take full responsibility for the safety of corps members at their various Places of Primary Assignment, PPAs, and ensure close monitoring and rapid response to security threats.

He said the Command would continue to take the fight to criminal elements and their hideouts, stressing that proactive policing remained central to preventing threats before they materialised.
Afolabi urged the corps members to make meaningful use of their service year in Abia by building positive relationships, embracing cultural diversity and gaining valuable experience from their stay in the South-East.
Responding, the corps members expressed appreciation for the Commissioner’s visit, saying it had boosted their confidence, strengthened their sense of security and reinforced their trust in the Police as partners in ensuring their safety throughout their service year.
