GOVERNMENT COMMENDS PROPRIETORS OF PRIVATE SCHOOLS FOR PARTNERING IN EDUCATION

In Abia State, the Honourable Commissioner for Basic Education, Elder Goodluck Chinedu Ubochi, has commended proprietors of private schools for complementing the government’s efforts in providing access to quality education.

In a written address to the Abia State Chapter of the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS) during their 2025 Day celebration held at BCA Field, Umuahia, Elder Ubochi noted that private school owners continue to play a vital role in shaping the state’s educational landscape. He praised them for fostering innovation in teaching and learning, and for nurturing generations of students who are well-prepared to contribute meaningfully to society.

He encouraged the proprietors to reflect on the progress made and explore future opportunities. He also assured them of his ministry’s commitment to strengthening collaboration, creating an enabling environment for private education to thrive in Abia State.

Speaking at the event, the Secretary of NAPPS Abia Chapter, Hon. Ochionu Ugochukwu Marshall, stated that the celebration serves as a reminder of their identity, purpose, and collective vision. He highlighted the theme of the year, “Celebrating the Impact of Private Schools: Policy, Technology, and Sustainability in a Changing Economy,” as timely and relevant.

Hon. Marshall praised Governor Alex Otti for integrating NAPPS into the state’s educational policies and programs. He emphasized that private schools are vital partners in national development and should be included in all aspects of educational planning—policy, funding, teacher training, access to technology, and infrastructure development—to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals.

He also called on the government to grant private schools access to support and grants, involve them in policy-making and digital education initiatives, and recognize them as collaborators rather than competitors.

The highlight of the occasion was a march-past by various private schools.
