Onuoha Hails Labour Party Convention as Defining Step Towards 2027

Aspirant for Abia North Senatorial District, Dr. David Ogba Onuoha, has described the 2026 Elective National Convention of the Labour Party Nigeria as a defining moment in the party’s march toward national relevance and electoral preparedness.

The convention, held at the International Conference Center Umuahia, brought together delegates and stakeholders from across the country to deliberate and elect party leaders.

Speaking with journalists, Dr. Onuoha, who served on the screening, accreditation, and electoral sub-committee, said the exercise reflected the party’s commitment to transparency and internal democracy.

“Our duty was simple but sacred: to ensure that every delegate, every vote, and every outcome reflects credibility and fairness,” he stated. “What we have demonstrated here is that internal democracy is not just something we preach; it is something we practice.”

He noted that the credibility of any election lies in the strength of its processes, adding that the committee ensured strict adherence to guidelines from screening through accreditation to voting.

While acknowledging that concerns are natural in any political process, Onuoha emphasized that the true test lies in how such concerns are managed. He said mechanisms were put in place to address grievances, ensuring that the integrity of the convention remains intact.

According to him, the convention marks a significant transition for the Labour Party from an emerging force to a structured and disciplined political movement.

“For the Labour Party, this convention is about consolidation. What we have built here today is the foundation that will carry us into the next phase of national relevance,” he said.

On the 2027 general elections, Onuoha stressed that preparations are already underway. “2027 is not a distant conversation; it is already in motion. A party that gets its internal processes right is already halfway prepared for the larger contest,” he added.

He urged party loyalists to remain united and committed to the ideals of justice, fairness, and people-centered governance.

Commenting on governance in Abia State, Onuoha expressed confidence in the administration of Alex Otti, stating that performance has earned the trust of the people.

“There is no vacancy in Government House, Umuahia. That is not a slogan; it is a reflection of performance. When leadership delivers, the people respond,” he said.

He said that the convention signals a new beginning for the party, marked by stronger unity, deeper structure, and a clear determination to shape Nigeria’s political future.
