Major Shake-Up: Ex-Abia Deputy Governor Ude Oko Chukwu Joins Labour Party

The immediate past Deputy Governor of Abia State, Rt. Hon. Sir Ude Oko Chukwu, is expected to formally join the Labour Party on Saturday, August 23, 2025

The official defection ceremony, which will be led by Governor Alex Otti, is anticipated to draw key political figures and supporters, marking a significant development in the state’s political arena.

Chukwu’s move comes amid growing discontent within the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), where a wave of defections has raised questions about the party’s stability in the region.

Political observers see the former deputy governor’s defection as a strategic shift that could reshape party alignments and influence the build-up to the 2027 general elections.
