Abia CP Strengthens Community Safety Partnership, Visits 14 Brigade, Police Divisions.

The Commissioner of Police, Abia State Command, CP Wilfred Olutokunbo Afolabi, has intensified community-based security efforts in the Ohafia area of the state as part of the Police Community Safety Partnership Initiative of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu.

Afolabi made the move on Friday, August 28, 2026, when he paid a courtesy visit to the Commander, 14 Brigade, Ohafia, Brigadier General A.M. Diko, and held an expanded security engagement with stakeholders in the area.

The visit was aimed at strengthening inter-agency cooperation, improving intelligence sharing and enhancing joint security operations across Abia State.

The Brigade Commander, who received the CP, assured him of the continued cooperation of the military, particularly in intelligence sharing and joint operations aimed at maintaining peace and security in the state.

The Commissioner later held a Community Safety Partnership meeting at the Ohafia Government Multi-Purpose Hall, attended by local government mayors, traditional rulers, women and youth representatives, transport unions, hotel operators, farmers and traders’ associations, Abia State Homeland Watch, vigilante groups, community policing representatives, hunters and other sister security agencies.

During the interactive session, stakeholders raised concerns over inadequate police manpower and mobility, external interference in arrests, alleged extortion and illegal demands during investigations, proliferation of unregulated security outfits and destruction of farmlands by herders.

They also called for stronger collaboration among the Police, traditional institutions, youth groups and other community-based security structures.

Responding, Afolabi reiterated the Inspector-General of Police’s zero-tolerance policy on unprofessional conduct, assuring the stakeholders that officers found engaging in misconduct would face disciplinary action.

He also provided his contact details to improve accessibility and accountability between the Police and members of the public.

The CP directed Divisional Police Officers to work only with approved community security outfits and take appropriate action against unrecognized groups. He further directed the Area Commander to convene a meeting with herders at the Command Headquarters to address concerns arising from farmer-herder relations.

He also ordered that contact telephone numbers of police divisions and the Area Command be prominently displayed outside the stations to make it easier for residents to reach the Police when necessary.

Afolabi urged residents to adopt basic security measures, including the use of pedal and wheel locks on vehicles, maintaining good neighbourly relations and promptly reporting suspicious persons and activities to the Police.

He advised community leaders to involve the Police in employment processes to enable proper profiling and documentation of prospective workers, while urging local security groups to maintain dedicated communication channels.

The Commissioner assured the groups that they would be included in upcoming training programmes being organised by the Command to improve their effectiveness.

As part of the working visit, Afolabi inspected the Arochukwu, Nkporo, Abiriba and Bende Divisional Police Headquarters, where he charged officers to maintain professionalism, discipline and strict adherence to the rule of law.

He also directed officers to comply with the Nigeria Police Force social media policy, maintain proper dress standards, improve traffic management and strengthen collaboration with approved community security outfits.

The CP further assured officers that the Command would sustain retraining initiatives aimed at improving their operational capacity and enhancing effective service delivery to the people of Abia State.
