Abia Police Train 300 Officers in Weapon Handling, Combat Operations

The Abia State Police Command has concluded its 2026 Weapon Handling and Combatant Operations Training aimed at strengthening operational efficiency and improving policing standards across the state

The intensive training, which held between May 15 and May 26 at the Command Headquarters in Umuahia, brought together 300 police constables in a structured programme designed to enhance tactical competence and operational readiness.

The exercise featured both theoretical and practical sessions, including lectures on marksmanship, Force Order 237 and core policing principles. Participants also underwent practical drills such as obstacle crossing, combat craft, ambush and counter-ambush exercises, live shooting at the range, and training on safe handling, assembling, dismantling and maintenance of firearms.

Speaking during the closing ceremony, the Commissioner of Police, Danladi Isa, urged the officers to apply the knowledge gained in the course of the training. He reminded them of the important responsibilities ahead, particularly as station guards, stressing the need for discipline, vigilance and professionalism in carrying out their duties.

The police commissioner also charged the officers to demonstrate courage, maintain physical fitness and exercise sound judgment while serving the public.

He commended the Commander of MOPOL 55, ACP Adesina Adeniran; the CTU Commander, Base 4, CSP Chisom Ezebuiro; and other instructors for their dedication and contributions to the successful completion of the exercise.

Certificates were presented to all participants at the end of the programme. Speaking on behalf of the trainees, Police Constable Anthony Queenette expressed appreciation to the commissioner for prioritising officers’ welfare throughout the training and sustaining efforts toward capacity development.

The trainees reaffirmed their commitment to upholding professionalism and effectively applying the skills acquired in the discharge of their duties.

The command reiterated its commitment to continuous training and capacity building as key pillars for effective policing and public safety in line with the vision of the Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu.
