Labour Party Fixes May 30 for Simultaneous Primaries Across Abia’s 184 Wards

The Labour Party in Abia State has reminded members, stakeholders and aspirants that its governorship, senatorial, House of Representatives and State House of Assembly primaries will hold simultaneously on Saturday, May 30, 2026, across the 184 wards in the state.

The party said the exercise follows an official directive from the national leadership of the Labour Party, which had earlier communicated the harmonised dates for the conduct of primary elections nationwide to the Independent National Electoral Commission.

In a statement issued on Thursday by the Abia State Publicity Secretary, Iroegbu Emenike, the party urged members across the 17 Local Government Areas and 184 wards to prepare adequately and come out en masse to participate in the democratic process ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The party assured members and aspirants of its commitment to a transparent, peaceful, credible and inclusive primary election in line with the Electoral Act, the Labour Party constitution and established democratic guidelines.

According to the statement, adequate security arrangements have been put in place to ensure a smooth, orderly and hitch-free exercise across all wards in the state.

The leadership further disclosed that additional operational guidelines and directives would be communicated to party leaders and stakeholders at the appropriate levels to guarantee effective coordination and seamless conduct of the primaries.

The Labour Party also appealed to aspirants, party officials and members to remain peaceful, law-abiding and comply fully with all laid-down rules and directives throughout the exercise.

The party reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening its political structure in Abia State as preparations intensify for the 2027 elections.
