NIGERIA WINS THE ALL AFRICAN PARA BADMINTON TOURNAMENT IN UMUAHIA

Nigeria have topped the medalist table of the just concluded All African Para Badminton Championship 2025, hosted in Umuahia Abia state as
Team Nigeria topped the medals table with 36 medals while Kenya and Egypt came 2nd and 3rd on the table respectively.

The event which held at the International Conference Centre, Umuahia, witnessed the presence of 12 countries participating in 19 events. With Nigeria topping the table with 10 gold, 13 silver and 13 bronze while Kenya occupied the second position with 11 medals 4 gold, 2 silver and 5 bronze .

Egypt clinched the the third position with 8 medals, 3 gold, 1 silver and 4 bronze. Republic of Benin came fourth with 1 gold, 2 silver and 2 bronze , while Congo Democratic Republic took the fifth position with 1 gold and 2 bronze medals .

Tunisia came sixth with 1 silver and 1 bronze, as Cameron was placed at seventh position with 6 bronze medals while
Zimbabwe, Burkina Faso, and Rwanda rounded off the top 10 with 2 bronze medals each and Mauritius completed the medals table with 1 bronze medal, Mozambique won no medal.

Speaking at the closing ceremony, the President of the Badminton Federation of Nigeria (BFN), Francis Orbih, congratulated the winners and looser for their performances saying they all did their best . He noted that spectators witnessed a remarkable display of courage, skill, and determination.

He revealed that the athletes have not only competed with excellence but have also inspired people with their resilience and sportsmanship spirit.

The BFN president appreciated the Governor and people of Abia state for their support, and also lauded the event partners, sponsors, and organizing committees for their hard work. Orbih also appreciated the Badminton World Federation (BWF) and Badminton Confederation Africa (BCA) for their unwavering support and guidance.

Speaking Governor, Alex Otti ably
represented by the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Sir Nwaobilor Ananaba described the event as a celebration of resilience and unity, drawing participants from across African countries. He commended the various Africa counties who participated in the tournament.

“You have all brought your colours, cultures, and courage to our country. Together we have written a beautiful history of inclusion through sports. One that will echo across Africa, years to come the governor stated .

Dr Otti further lauded the Badminton World Federation and the Badminton Confederation of Africa for their unwavering partnership and professionalism that was brought to bear at the event

The Governor, who celebrated the winners, expressed his willingness to host the event again next year, noting that Nigeria is inspired by hosting the event.

Addressing the press, Abia state Director of Sports, Comrade Obioma George thanked Governor Alex Otti for his massive support to the game.

He commended the athletes, coaches and the local organizing committee for their contributions towards the success of the championship. Noting that the
competition has exposed Abia to the world observing that the Governor gave express approval for the state to host the All African Para Badminton Championship again.
