GOV. OTTI FLAGS OFF THE CONSTRUCTION OF UMUAHIA IKOT EKPENE ROAD AND ARIAM USAKA RING ROAD

The Abia state governor Dr Alex Otti have formally on 24th of October 2025 flagged off the construction of the long abandoned Umuahia Ikot Ekpene road in Umuahia North LGA and Ariam Usaka ring road in Ikwuano LGA.

Speaking at the occassion which took place at Azueke Ndume Ibeku , the governor Dr. Alex Otti said he has come to end the age long night mare that motorists and commuters have faced on the road noting that his focus on roads infrastructural construction are yielding fruits accross the state .

The governor who titled his address ‘The end of a night mare’ promised that the road would be completed in eighteen months expressing confidence on the company handling the road , Geld Construction Company to do quality work on the road .

He explained that he do not believe in dichotomy in roads construction so despite the fact that the road is a federal road he decided to reconstruct the road after getting due approval from the federal government . He stated that his administration is committed to reversing the long years of infrastructural decay in the state .

The governor disclosed that some politicians in the state tried to scuttle the contract but could not he therefore thanked President Bola Ahmed TInubu for awarding the road to the state government.

Making their remarks the Senator representing Abia Central Senatorial district Senator Austin Akobundu and the Deputy Speaker Abia State House of Assembly RT.Hon.Austin Meregini in whose domain the roads fall in to, commended the governor for decision to take over the roads which they stated have remained Abandoned and in decay for years.

The Permanent Secretary Ministry of Works Engr Izuchukwu Onwughara who represented the state Commission for works ministry of works Engr. Otumchere Oti out lined the specifications of the road and the quality of materials to be used on the road said features to be found when completed include solar light and standard drainage system . He charged the people of the area to take charge of the road and cooperate with the contractors for a smooth process of the job .

A community Leader and president General of Ndume Otuka autonomous community Sir John Onyiro was full of praises for the governor saying the people of the area have been remembered . He declared that the governor would go for a second tenure and all should go and get their voters card ready to vote the governor again come 2027 .

From here governor Alex Otti and his team moved to Ariam Usaka in Ikwuano LGA to flag off the Ariam Usaka Ring Road where he promised the people of Ikwuano that more roads construction are coming to the area soon , so they should expect more .
