Abia 2027 and the opposition threats
By Okechukwu Keshi Ukegbu
Despite mounting opposition challenges ahead of the governorship election in Abia, Gov. Alex Otti, has remained resolute and committed to delivering the dividends of democracy to Abians, which is the major responsibility of his mandate. The governor said that he is not perturbed by the antics of opposition elements in the state.
It will be recalled that recently, the opposition against Gov. Otti”s reelction in 2027 has increased its tempo. Prominent are utterances by a former governor of the state who vowed to truncate the ambitions of Gov. Otti to extend his reign beyond 2027.
But these threats are sounding like water poured on a stone which drips downwards without gathering any momentum. In consonance with biblical admonitions in Isaiah 54:15 “Behold, they shall surely gather together, but not by me: whosoever shall gather together against thee shall fall for thy sake,” Gov. Otti is strongly assured and convinced that such gatherings are not meant for him. Like the late civil rights crusader , Martin Luther King Jnr declared in his quote”When evil men plot, good men must plan”.
When evil men burn and bomb, good men must build and bind.
When evil men shout ugly words of hatred, good men must commit themselves to the glories of love.”
Gov. Otti has sent a strong signal to opposition elements in the state that his government will remain focused despite their distractions”.
While speaking in a church service at Seventh-Day Adventist Church, Umuikaa District headquarters, Isialangwa South LGA, noted that he is not perturbed by the antics of the opposition ahead of 2027 elections, as he is strongly assured that the God that settled 2023 would equally settle 2027.
He said ” I assure you that this government will continue to do the right thing. No one, or group of people, whoever they are, none of them is entitled to distract us.
“So, when they make noise, like I said last week, we should not be bothered about noise.
“We should just remain focused and do what we have to do.
“So, sometimes, I worry if it is the 2027 election they are talking about, or maybe there’s another election coming up.
“But the same way God delivered 2023, that is the way he will deliver 2027 in Jesus’ name”, Gov. Otti declared.
For Gov Otti, delivering service to Abians is his most veritable campaign tool, and he has concentrated on this strategy since the inception of his administration in 2023.
In response to the request of the church on the challenges posed by flood church premises and its environs, the governor directed that the Commissioner for Works extends the drainage work down to the Umuikaa junction.
While assuring that he would continue to serve the state in truth and honesty, he thanked the church for their immense support to his administration”.
The governor seized the opportunity to announce the dualisation of the road.”As you can see, we are at the final stages of dualising this road. It is a federal road, but we got approval from the federal government to reconstruct and dualise the road.
“And as we are doing this, we are also doing the one from Onuimo to Tower. And the idea is that any time you get into Abia State, you know you’ve gotten into Abia State” Gov. Otti stated.
Respondents in turn, eulogised Gov. Otti and his style of leadership, assuring him of an oberwhelming an unwavering support of the Abia electorate for his reelection bid.
For Masterguide Chidera Mark, who delivered the homily, believers in Christ should not be disturbed by events surrounding them because God remains the same forever, and does not change or renege in his promises because he is not human. He urged all to put their hope in Christ, assuring them of the eternal Kingdom.
While appreciating the leadership style of Gov Alex Otti, who has made the people to rejoice, Mark noted that there were issues to be worried about in Abia before now, but the emergence of Governor Alex Otti brought hope in the State, emphasising that his reelection would sustain the hope and good works being witnessed at the present.
