Desist from attempts of taking power through the back door, Abia Labour Party warns APC

Labour Party in Abia State has frowned at what it described as desperate attempts by some elements who are acting in the name of the All Progressives Congress( APC) to wrestle power through the back door.
In a statement by the Chairman of the party in the state, Sir Emmanuel Nwaeze Oti , the party noted that some prominent individuals in APC are demanding Permanent Voter’s Card (PVC) details and National Identification Numbers (NIN) from citizens across the 17 Local Government Areas of Abia State under the guise of party e-registration.

Abia Labour Party noted further that information available to it indicates that these illegal activities are being carried out during so-called “Town Hall meetings,” where sensitive personal information of citizens is either copied or photographed.

Therefore, the party states that “no individual, group, or political party has the right to demand or collect PVC or NIN details from citizens in this manner. Such actions are illegal, unsafe, and a gross violation of electoral laws, data protection regulations, and established democratic processes”.

Labour Party’s concern is raised on the heels of an incident where a suspect identified as Kelechi Henry Nwafor, from Ibom Village, Ndi Okwu Compound, Arochukwu, was arrested and handed over to the Nigeria Police.

The suspect reportedly confessed at the Arochukwu Divisional Police Headquarters that he was sent to Arochukwu on this illegal mission on the instructions of some heavy weights of APC In the state.

The party is appealing to Abians to always remain vigilant and resist sharing personal information such as PVC or NIN with unverified individuals or groups.

It also urges citizens to promptly report any suspicious activities to the appropriate security agencies.
