JUSUN STRIKE IS NOT OUR MAKING

Abía State government have come out to say that the recent Industrial action embarked upon by the Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria JUSUN on the 13th of March 2026 in Abia state is not the making of the state government.

Addressing an array of Newsmen on the 9th of April 2026 at the government house Umuahia , the state’s Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice Barr. Ikechukwu Uwanna said the state government is not responsible for the industrial
action embarked upon by the Abia State branch of Judiciary Staff Union of Nigeria JUSUN . He stated that Workers welfare have remained a top priority to the state governor Dr Alex Otti who have continued to demonstrate appreciable goodwill to Civil Servants through payment of different allowance to workers in the state .in the state .

The Attorney general and Commissioner for Justice Barr Uwanna
said government’ could not pay JUSUN their Leave Allowance due to their refusal to present to
governent the detailed document of the disbursement or the payment of the consolidated Salary paid to them by government to determine if the leave allowance they
are demanding for is not built in in their Consolidated salary structure they received from government .

He said their refusal to present this document makes it impossible for them to be paid their leave allowance. He stated that if JUSUN could present the details of the payments made and government confirms that they were not paid leave allowance in their consolidated Salary Structure , government’ he said would pay JUSUN their leave allowance within 24 hours .

Explaining further the Accountant General of the state Deaconess Njum Onyemenam Umah said JUSUN is an Independent body that has their own salary structure and as such they are paid what is known as Consolidated Salary Structure. She maintained that the essence of asking JUSUN to come forward with the details of the disbursement of the consolidated salary given to them is to prove that their leave allowance was not part of the consolidated salary paid to JUSUN and once this is proved , the payment would be effected by government . She said if JUSUN could forward the details to government to ascertain that their leave allowance is not contained in their consolidated salary structure , government’ she said would not hesitate to pay .

It should be recalled that the JUSUN Abia State chapter with Comrade Chinedu Eze as the state Chairman embarked on an indefinite strike on the 13th of March 2026 on the excuse that the Abia State government have refused to pay them their leave allowance , pensions and some other allowances , vowing never to come back to office till they are paid .

The state Commissioner for Information Prince Okey Kanu , the Commissioner for Labour and productivity and other top government officials were present during the briefing .
