PDP Conducts Peaceful Governorship Primary in Abia, Anosike Emerges Candidate for 2027

The Peoples Democratic Party in Abia State has concluded its governorship primary election ahead of the 2027 general election, with Dr. Kelechi Anosike emerging as the party’s gubernatorial candidate.

Declaring the result at the end of the exercise held in Umuahia, the Abia State Chairman of the party, Elder Abraham Amah, announced that Dr. Kelechi Anosike polled a total of 16,543 votes to defeat his closest rival, Chief John Okiyi Kalu, who scored 3,145 votes, while Barr. Olugu Kalu secured 961 votes.

Amah stated that the three contestants were all qualified and eminently prepared for the race, but noted that the delegates overwhelmingly gave their mandate to Dr. Anosike.

“By the powers conferred on me by the panel to announce the results, I hereby declare that Barr. Olugu Kalu scored 961 votes, Chief John Okiyi Kalu scored 3,145 votes, while Dr. Kelechi Anosike scored 16,543 votes and is hereby returned as the PDP governorship candidate for the 2027 election,” Amah declared.

He explained that the election was conducted across the state with results received from 179 voting centres, while five centres did not submit their results.

According to him, the five outstanding results were not enough to alter the overall outcome of the election.

The state chairman commended party officials, members of the National Working Committee, zonal officers, and delegates for ensuring a transparent and peaceful process.

He also appreciated members of the media for their role in strengthening democracy and ensuring compliance with the party’s constitutional guidelines.

Amah further thanked officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission, including those from Abuja and the Abia State office, for monitoring the primary election.

He also praised electoral officers across the 17 local government areas and security agencies for maintaining order throughout the exercise..

“No incident was recorded in any of the 17 local government areas. We thank God and appreciate the security agencies for ensuring peace during the process,” he said.
