Benjamin Kalu Assures Transparent APC Presidential Primary in Abia, Says Party Ready for Tinubu’s Victory

The Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Benjamin Kalu, has declared that the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Abia State is fully prepared for the party’s presidential primary election, insisting that the process will reflect transparency, accountability and strict adherence to the Electoral Act.

Speaking to Newsmen shortly afyer a stakeholders and committee members in Umuahia, Kalu explained that the Electoral Act recognizes only two legitimate methods through which candidates can emerge in party primaries , consensus and direct primaries.

According to him, the APC has largely adopted the direct primary option across the country, allowing party members at the ward level to actively participate in nominating candidates for various elective positions.

“Direct primaries involve members of the party at the ward level participating in nominating who leads them. We have already seen that happen in the House of Assembly, House of Representatives, Senate and governorship primaries. What is left now is the presidential primary taking place tomorrow,” he said.

Kalu, who disclosed that he was appointed as the coordinator and coalition officer for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in Abia State, said the party had already concluded strategic meetings involving representatives from the 184 wards and 17 local government areas of the state.

He confirmed that all election materials for the exercise had arrived from Abuja and remained sealed to guarantee credibility.

“I wish to confirm that we have result sheets for all the 184 wards and 17 local governments in Abia State. There is no room for mistakes. It is 17 for 17 and 184 for 184,” Kalu stated.

The Deputy Speaker added that only one final state collation document was issued for Abia State, stressing that the document would contain the harmonized results from across the state before being transmitted to Abuja.

He noted that the arrangements were designed to demonstrate the APC’s commitment to internal democracy and transparent electoral processes.

“This is Mr. President practicing what he has been preaching through the laws of this country, through the policies of this country and through the decisions of our party,” he added.

Kalu further disclosed that ward committees, local government committees and a central working committee had already been activated to coordinate the exercise and ensure smooth collation of results.

According to him, all candidates who emerged from previous APC primaries for the House of Assembly, House of Representatives, Senate and governorship elections have also been mobilized to participate in the process.

He expressed confidence that President Bola Ahmed Tinubu would secure overwhelming support from party members in the state.

“We are ready, we are energized, we love our President and we want him back there. Tomorrow, we will put it in writing through the result forms so that it will be documented that it was a decision made in line with the laws of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” Kalu said.

He announced that voting for the presidential primary would commence by 8am and is expected to conclude before noon, while final results are projected to be announced by 2pm before transmission to Abuja.
