Abia Enforces Movement Restriction for March Sanitation Exercise

Residents of Abia State have been directed to observe the monthly environmental sanitation exercise scheduled for Saturday, March 28, 2026, from 7:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m.

In a press release signed by the Public Relations Officer, Obioma Chidinma Success, on behalf of the Commissioner for Environment, Philemon Asonye Ogbonna, the government announced that movement of persons and vehicles will be restricted during the exercise. Only individuals on essential duties will be exempted and must present valid identification or authorized clearance when required.

The statement urged key stakeholders, including local government chairmen, traditional rulers, town union leaders, as well as religious, youth, and women organizations, to intensify sensitization efforts and ensure active participation across communities.

As part of the sanitation measures, markets, motor parks, transport operators, and business premises are to suspend operations on Friday, March 27, 2026, between 7:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m., to carry out clean-up activities within their premises.

Security agencies, including the Nigeria Police Force, Federal Road Safety Corps, and Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, have been directed to assemble at designated points for deployment to ensure compliance.

Residents are further advised to remain indoors during the sanitation period, clean their surroundings, and use nose masks while carrying out the exercise.
The government warned that defaulters will be arrested and prosecuted in line with the state’s environmental laws.
