ABIA GOVT TO PROVIDE MORE HOUSES FOR UMUAHIA THE STATE CAPITAL

The Abia State Governor say more housing Estates would be provided for the residents of Umuahia the Abia state capital.

The governor made this promise while answering questions during the monthly media chat of the governor and the press which took place on Friday the 27th of March 2026 at the banquet hall of government house Umuahia.

Speaking on the high cost of house rent in Umuahia the state capital , Governor Otti said the reason for the the high cost is the interplay of demand and supply. According to him Umuahia the state capital is currently experiencing influx of people into the state capital , this he said is as a result of the massive development going on in Umuahia the state capital hence the high demand for houses and consequently the rise in rentage fees .

 

He assured that his government’ would in no distant time address this development by providing more housing estates for the state capital of Abía State. When this is done, the issue of high cost ot house rent shall be a thing of the past in Umuahia.

He announced that he had earlier in the day flagged off the construction of a 5000 bed space female hostels and nother same capacity hostel for male students in Abia State University Uturu during the combined Convocation of the 30th , 31st and 32nd convocation ceremony of the school .

Also commissioned were law and Agriculture faculties buildings .

Governor Otti equally announced that he has given automatic lecturing job to

all first Class Post graduate Students of the school and awarded scholarship to all first class students to PhD level in any university of their choice across the nation .

He said he has earmarked 200 million naira for up to 100 graduates who are versatile in innovative business plan and enterprise initiatives .

The governor used the occassion to state that he had no plan to go to any other political party saying the issue in Labour party have been amicably resolved. He made clear he also have no plans to oppose President TInubu’s reelection bid , saying there is no need for that noting that he Alex Otti is also going for a 2nd term bid.

The Abia State Chief Executive hinted that his administration have installed electric power station in ABSU . He said the installation of power stations in ABSU would continue to progress till the entire School and it’s environs are completely covered with electricity power supply .

 

On infrastructure , the governor said work is progressing on over 30 road project sites excluding the job on direct labour road projects . He said government’ is having meeting with African Development Bank. ADB , over infrastructural development in the state. He said the major concern of government is for job creation and welfare of the people .

On Health sector , the governor said

200 primary Health Care Centres have been completed under project Ekwueme , while 500 out of the 771. medical personnel who applied for the job , have been short listed for employment and the governor have ordered that the portal should remain open so that more interested Candidates can still feel free to apply saying employment for Medical personnels would not stop till the required number of 949 medical personnel is reached .

Phase 2 of the Ekwueme Project is to kick off soon . He

announced that the Abia state government would soon digitalize health care services in the state while about 5_6 General hospitals are being renovated and equipped and the Ukwa East General Hospital, he promised would be delivered before the end of 2026 .

The governor disclosed that The Church of Later Day Saints donated a one million naira equipment to the state government and the governor said he was very appreciative of the kind gesture from the church .
