Abia Police Arrest Two Over Attempted Child Stealing, Drug Possession in Olokoro

The Abia State Police Command has arrested two suspects over alleged conspiracy, attempted child stealing and possession of suspected hard drugs in Olokoro community, Umuahia South Local Government Area of the state.

The suspects, identified as Nzubechi Chinagorom, 24, and Chinonso Chibundu, 25, both from Olokoro, were apprehended by police operatives in collaboration with the Olokoro Community Vigilante following intelligence reports.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Maureen Chioma Chinaka, the incident occurred on May 25, 2026, when one of the suspects, Nzubechi Chinagorom, allegedly stormed the residence of Miss Amarachi Chinyereugo in Olokoro and attempted to forcibly take away her two-week-old baby girl.

Police said the move led to a struggle with the mother during which the suspect allegedly assaulted and stabbed her with a kitchen knife, while the baby reportedly fell and hit her head in the process.

It was gathered that the second suspect, Chinonso Chibundu, stayed outside the house and acted as a lookout while the attack was ongoing.

Following the victim’s distress call, both suspects reportedly fled the scene but were later arrested at a nearby bus stop where they were allegedly found taking substances suspected to be hard drugs.

The injured mother and her baby were immediately taken to hospital for treatment and have since recovered.

Police said exhibits were recovered from the suspects, while investigation into the matter has been concluded at the State Criminal Investigation Department. The suspects are expected to be arraigned in court on June 2, 2026.
