Abia Police Arrest Two Suspects for Vandalizing, Stealing Government Property

The Abia State Police Command has arrested two suspected vandals allegedly involved in the destruction and theft of government property in Uzuakoli, Bende Local Government Area of the state.

The suspects, identified as Emmanuel Ogonna, 23, and Ifeanychukwu Oko, 25, both natives of Lohom in Uzuakoli, were apprehended by operatives of the Mike Okiro Divisional Police Headquarters during a stop-and-search operation along Uzuakoli Road.

According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Maureen Chioma Chinaka, the arrest followed actionable intelligence received by the police on June 19, 2026.

Items recovered from the suspects include 49 pieces of angle irons, two saws, three spanners, three small iron boards, and 86 electrical poles, all suspected to have been vandalized and stolen from government facilities.

The police disclosed that the suspects confessed to the crime during interrogation, admitting their involvement in the vandalism and theft of the recovered items.

Following their arrest, the case was transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation and prosecution.

Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police, Abia State Command, CP Danladi Isa, reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to combating crime and protecting public infrastructure across the state.

He urged residents to remain vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement agencies by reporting suspicious individuals and activities to the nearest police station or through the Command’s emergency hotlines.

The police boss emphasized that safeguarding public property is a collective responsibility and warned criminal elements to desist from acts of vandalism or face the full weight of the law.

The Abia State Police Command reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety and security of lives and property, while calling on members of the public to continue supporting ongoing efforts to keep the state safe.
