The Abia State Governor Dr Alex Óttï kick started the state’s 35 anniversary thanks giving service with strong prayers for the Residents of the state and the state Abía saying though am not a pastor , but my Father is a pastor so I have the anointing.
The governor prayed for peace and Prosperity of the state,
urging Abians to remain steadfast in faith and hope, assuring that God’s timing will ultimately bring about the fulfilment of the aspirations of the people.

Governor Otti made the prayers on Sunday, August 23, 2026, during an interdenominational Thanksgiving Service held at the Okpara Square Event Centre beside Nnenna Oti Bus Terminal, Umuahia, to mark the 35th anniversary of the creation of Abia State. The theme of the service was “The Rise of a New Abia.”
The governor recalled that he started his election victory with thanks giving to God which he termed Returning Abía to God . He stated that his government’ is deeply rooted in thanksgiving to God , noting that Abía is God’s Own State
Governor Otti also congratulated Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, on his recent electoral victory , calling him a son of Abía State. He noted that Governor Adeleke has strong ties to Abia State through his mother, who hails from Akwete Ndoki in Ukwa East LGA.
Gov. Otti welcomed the former Governor of Cross River State, former Senator and former Minister, Senator Liyel Imoke, who attended the thanksgiving service. The Governor thanked all the dignitaries, clergymen and Abians who attended the service, and prayed for their safe return to their various destinations.
Speaking at the service, former Governor of Cross River State, Senator Liyel Imoke, commended Governor Otti for what he described as the unprecedented transformation taking place across Abia.
Sen. Imoke said his assessment was based not only on what he had heard but also on projects he personally inspected before arriving at the Church service.
According to him, Governor Otti had, within three years, achieved what could be compared to the accomplishments of three administrations.
He declared that the Governor had “accomplished what Abia lost in three decades,” and expressed confidence that God was truly at work in the Stat
In his sermon, the Catholic Archbishop of Owerri and President of the Catholic Bishops’ Conference of Nigeria, Most Rev. Dr. Lucius Iwejuru Ugorji, described the 35th anniversary of Abia State as a testimony to God’s faithfulness despite the challenges the State had faced since its creation in 1991.
He noted that Abians endured years of infrastructural decay, insecurity and ECONOMIC setbacks but remained resilient through faith, hard work and perseverance
“Reaching 35 years is not just a measure of years; it is a testimony of God’s faithfulness that preserved the identity and spirit of Abians.
Archbishop Ugorji said the current wave of development across the State reflects a season of restoration and renewed hope . The second bible reading of the service was taken by the wife of the governor Mrs Priscilla Chidinma Óttï .
