Emetu Visits Crash Victim in Umuahia, Pledges to Foot Medical Bills

The Deputy Governor of Abia State, Ikechukwu Emetu, on Thursday visited a road accident victim at Federal Medical Centre Umuahia and pledged to shoulder the full cost of her treatment.

The visit followed a traffic accident along the Abiriba–Ohafia Highway on February 19, 2026, just minutes before the Deputy Governor’s convoy arrived at the scene. On sighting the crash, Emetu reportedly ordered that one of the severely injured victims be rushed to the tertiary health facility in Umuahia for urgent care.

The victim, Mrs. Nnenna Joseph, a staff nurse at Amaelu/Agboji Primary Health Centre in Abiriba, was said to be returning from a training programme at the Ohafia Local Government Area Secretariat in Ebem when the motorcycle conveying her collided with a Sharon mini van.

At the hospital, the casualty officer on duty, Dr. Victor Ezekwem, disclosed that Mrs. Joseph sustained deep musculoskeletal lacerations and fractures to her toes. He confirmed that she is scheduled to undergo surgery.
During the visit, Emetu directed the hospital’s management to ensure that the patient receives comprehensive and timely medical attention. He also assured the family that he would personally cover all medical expenses related to her treatment.

The Deputy Governor used the occasion to stress the need for strict adherence to road safety regulations by motorists and commercial motorcycle operators to prevent avoidable accidents.

Family members of the victim expressed gratitude for the Deputy Governor’s swift intervention and financial support, offering prayers for his continued strength and service to the people of Abia State.
