ESV Uche Ibe: Estate Surveyors Champion Strategic Real Estate Development at Abia 2026 Conference

Stakeholders in Nigeria’s real estate sector have called for increased awareness, professionalism, and strategic collaboration to drive sustainable development, as the 56th Annual Conference of the Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers commenced in Umuahia, Abia State.

The conference, held at the International Conference Centre, Umuahia, is themed “Corridors, Connectivity and Capital: Rethinking Real Estate Development Along Renewed Hope Infrastructure Investments.”

Speaking to journalists, Estate Surveyor and Valuer, Augustine Uche Ibe, who also serves as Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee, said the event tagged Abia 2026 is designed to showcase the relevance of estate surveyors and valuers in national development.

According to him, the conference aims to create public awareness about the profession and its value in ensuring proper land use, fair compensation, and economic growth.

“We want to create awareness not just of our presence, but of the value we bring to the public by using the services of Estate Surveyors and Valuers,” Ibe said. “We also want our members to come into Abia and experience the hospitality the state is known for.”

He commended the Governor of Abia State for fostering an enabling environment for economic growth, noting that recent engagements between the state government and the institution have strengthened collaboration.

“At the end of this event, we expect Abia State to be properly represented. For a long time, the state had challenges with leadership, but today, we are rewriting our story. When people come, see, and experience things firsthand, it attracts more investment,” he added.

Ibe emphasized that one of the key outcomes of the conference would be promoting the optimal use of land resources, which he described as central to sustainable development.

Highlighting the conference theme, he pointed to ongoing infrastructure development in the state, including roads, schools, and healthcare facilities, as evidence of purposeful governance.

“All these developments contribute to economic efficiency. When roads are good, when people are healthy and educated, they save costs and create wealth. Estate Surveyors and Valuers play a critical role in bridging the gap between government and the people, especially in matters of land acquisition and fair compensation,” he explained.

He further noted that the involvement of professionals in valuation processes has helped reduce disputes in major projects across the state, ensuring transparency and mutual understanding between affected communities and the government.

The conference is expected to attract participants from across the country, providing a platform for knowledge exchange, policy discussions, and investment promotion in the real estate sector.
