It was a solemn gathering at Umuerim Nsirimo in Umuahia South, as government officials, political leaders, and well-wishers converged to bid a final farewell to Mrs. Nkechinyere Justina Ngwaba (née Oparaocha).

The deceased, a respected matriarch, was an aunt to the member representing Isiala Ngwa North/South Federal Constituency, Ginger Obinna Onwusibe.

Other dignitaries present included the member representing Ikwuano/Umuahia Federal Constituency, Hon. Obi Aguocha; the Deputy Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Austin Okezie; the member representing Isiala Ngwa North State Constituency, Hon. Ugochukwu Iheonunekwu; and the member representing Umuahia South State Constituency, Hon. Emeka Obioma.

Also in attendance were the Mayor of Umuahia South, Chinwendu Enwereuzo; the Mayor of Isiala Ngwa North, Innocent Uruakpa; and the Commissioner for Arts, Culture and Creative Economy, Dr. Matthew Ekwuribe, alongside captains of industry and community leaders.

Delivering the condolence message on behalf of Governor Alex Otti, the Deputy Governor, Engr. Ikechukwu Emetu, described the late Mrs. Ngwaba as a devout Christian whose life was marked by humility, compassion, and selfless service to humanity. He urged the bereaved family to find comfort in the impactful and exemplary life she lived

He noted that although her passing created a significant void, her legacy of kindness and dedication would continue to inspire all who came in contact with her. Drawing from scripture, he cited the Bible (Revelation 14:13), emphasizing the promise of eternal rest for those who die in the Lord.

In a homily at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Nsirimo, Rev. Fr. Kalu Luke Alicho admonished Christians to live upright lives anchored on love, while shunning hatred and envy. He reminded the congregation that death marks a transition rather than the end of life.

In his condolence message, the Nephew to the deceased and member representing Isiala North South Federal Constituency, Hon. Onwusibe described the deceased as a mother figure whose influence shaped many lives within the family.

He expressed appreciation to the Abia State Government for its support, particularly the approval for the reconstruction of the Nsirimo road, and thanked all who stood by the family during the period of mourning.

The funeral attracted a large turnout of mourners, reflecting the widespread respect for the late Mrs. Ngwaba, whose life was celebrated for her faith, generosity, and enduring service to her community.
