IBEKU ANCIENT KINGDOM SET TO REVIVE AGE LONG TRADITIONS

Ibeku Ancient kingdom is one of the prominent clans that made up Umuahia North LGA of Abia State . The people of the clan The Ibekus are well known in Abia State and beyond .Their known for their rich cultural heritage and festivities .

Recently the people took a bold decision to revive some of their forgotten cultural heritages and to strengthen existing ones like the popular Iriji ,the new yam Festival . On the 11th of July 2025 the Traditional rulers of the clan in company of one of their foremost patriarch Chief Benjamin Apugo and other prominent community leaders of Ibeku land , assembled at the village square of Ibeku land called Egwu Ibeku along Bende road Umuahia, where they addressed the press on issues bordering on their culture .
Addressing the people and the press at the village square Chief Benjamin Apugo popularly known as Opara Ibeku told the press that the people of Ibeku land long time ago used to celebrated a festival known as Izo Ahia Ibeku and this festival dates back to the ancient times and was celebrated 53 years ago which was in 1972 .
According to him the people of Ibeku have decided to revive that Culture again and sequel to this Chief Apugo said the Izo Ahia Ibeku festival shall be celebrated on the 24th of July 2025 . Chief Apugo said distant relations of Ibeku land and other eminent personalities shall be invited to the event .
He said the event would hence forth be celebrated every 5 years for the sake of younger generation. The dressing of the festival shall be formal . There would be drumming and dancing. Stressing the importance of culture ,he observed that the people of Ibeku Ancient kingdom are set to revive all their ailing cultures. He maintained that the people of Ibeku Ancient kingdom use culture to checkmate crime in the society among other benefits attached to the culture of a people. End.
